General Orthopedics & Traumatology
|
Majority of admissions in the Department of Orthopedics of Southern Philippines Medical Center are trauma cases as the department is the only tertiary referral center for orthopedic trauma in Southern Mindanao. It performs >1,000 trauma procedures each year ranging from fixation of long bones to joint reconstructions. The department has also the capability of handling multi-trauma cases with the presence of an Orthopedic ICU. It also maintains good referral system with other surgical and medical subspecialties for better patient management.

Adult Orthopedics
|
The Adult Orthopedic Section caters non-traumatic musculoskeletal conditions of patients 18 years old and above. This section has the equipments and capability to perform services in the following orthopedic subspecialties: Musculoskeletal Oncology, Ilizarov Method and Limb Lengthening, Joint Replacement, Arthroscopic Surgery, Sports Medicine, Orthopedic Infections.

Pediatric Orthopedics
|
Musculoskeletal problems in children are different from adult because children are still growing, their body’s response to fractures/injuries, inflammation, infectious problems and deformities may quite different than those of a full-grown person. The Pediatric Orthopedic Section diagnose, treat, and manage children’s musculoskeletal problems, such as limb and spine deformities, gait abnormalities, fractures, bone or joint infections and tumors.

Spine Surgery
|
Comprehensive treatment of adult and pediatric spine disorders is provided in this section which caters the entire spectrum of spinal disorders including spinal deformity, degenerative diseases, trauma, tumors and infections of the spine.

Hand & Microvascular Surgery
|
This section of the Department of Orthopedics of Southern Philippines Medical Center provides surgical as well as nonsurgical management of affectations of the hand and wrist whether it is traumatic or congenital in etiology. It also provides peripheral nerve surgeries and services on microvascular surgery such as complex wound coverage with soft tissue flaps and replantation surgery of traumatically amputated digits and limbs.

Ilizarov Method
|
The Ilizarov external fixator is used to lengthen/reshape, treat complex and/or open fractures, and in cases of infected non-unions of bones that cannot be salvaged with other methods.

Sports Medicine
|
This section of the Department of orthopedics deals with treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports. Ligamentous injuries to the knee and other joints are treated with arthroscopic as well as open procedures to help the athlete return to function.

Arthroscopic Surgery
|
Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which examination and treatment of damaged structures in the joint is performed using an arthroscope inserted into the joint through small incisions.

|
Orthopedic Oncology
|
This service offers both diagnostic and treatment of primary benign and malignant neoplasms of the bones and bony structures of the human body. It offers limb salvage procedures for limbs that are amenable to amputation due to large size of the tumor.

Minimally Invasive Surgery
|
Minimally invasive surgeries are procedures performed through small incisions without disrupting the fracture site. Because incisions are small, patients tend to have minimal blood loss, smaller incision scars, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times.
